Sample Weekend Play by Play
Page history last edited by clayton 10 mos ago
Typical weekend:
Friday:
- 6pm: Everyone gets together; figures out who else is there; what would be interesting to build. Generally, just talk about the community, meet people, share the nerves.
- 7pm: Pitches start (if you have an idea for a product you pitch it to the group).
- 8pm: Teams start breaking off (generally about nine teams will form during the weekend, creating nine products or companies).
- This is a self-selection process. People should form up around ideas that they think are interesting and would like to work on for the weekend. Ideally you'd like a group between 5-10 people but groups of 2 or as large as 20 are cetainly acceptable.
- As a side note, you're not limited to working on web only applications. Generally these make the most sense given the nature of the weekend and those who reigster, but if you really feel like working on that new cupcake business, by all means, go for it!
- 9pm: Hopefully teams have solidified their concept and created an elevator pitch (even a simple one) by now.
- 10pm: Break off to a bar or coffeeshop to continue the discussion and attempt to paper prototype out their application.
Saturday:
- 9am: Crowds pour in; work starts on development.
- 10am: Good idea to have your site paper prototyped out, working title, all your technical plans made out. Start the process of getting your servers live, buying domains and creating user flows.
- 12pm: Lunch.
- 3pm: More coding, business plan development, and a special guest
- 6pm: Special guest drop-ins and pitches from the teams. These guests are generally angel investors, VCs or sponsor companies.
- 9pm: Gut check on the product; basic prototype building; group get-together for drinks and to talk about the products everyone is working on.
Sunday
- 9am: The day’s work starts again, breakfast and the begining to the best day of the weekend.
- 10am: You should have a live splash page up with an email capture and a simple blog.
- 12pm: Projects are being developed; more special guests drop in.
- 6pm: Sink or swim time for those looking for a weekend launch.
- 9pm: Presentations from each company; what worked, what didn’t, what could go better. Wrap up and move out.
